A Construction Project Journey…
This construction project was possible because of the extreme generosity of the Mooresville community. We would like to thank our countless volunteers, businesses and the faith community who donated their time and the funding of this project. We have completed the demolition, renovation and new addition for this 4 bedroom/4.5 bath home.
How it Started
The first step was finding a property that fits the needs of our guests and mission. Ideally, we looked for a home that was near the resources of downtown Mooresville but not in the heart of the business district. The location we selected will provide our clients with a private home and large backyard for the children to play, complete with a playground donated and built by BB& T bank.
Next we needed to add additional space to the house and re-design the remaining floor plan. Adams + Associates (located on Main St. Mooresville) was the first business to step up and donate their services. They took our small, odd house and turned it into a functioning home that meets commercial building standards while maintaining the warm feeling of a single family home.
Construction Team
Every project needs the right team and HOMe has the best! Construction leadership has been a group effort of Cliff Hecht, Tommy Chester, Julie Wooldrige and Bruce DeCaron. Volunteers from local churches and individuals began showing up to tear down walls and rebuild them.
Other businesses stepped up to help such as Piedmont Design, Abernathy Grading, Adams Flooring (hardwoods), Builders Wholesale Flooring (tile), E&P Trimwork Inc., Lowe’s Home Improvement (kitchen), Carolina Floor Systems (gypcrete), Mike Martin (Plumbing), Shep Shepard Landscaping, siding crew led by Chris Cashwell & Stan Brown, Tim Menster (roof), Lakeside Heating & Air, Frank & Randy Meadows (electrician), and Ingersoll Rand (HVAC unit).
First Baptist Church painting the “green bedroom” they adopted. They will add the finishing touches by providing furnishings and decorative details.
Nearing the Finish Line
As of November 2017, we have completed construction and thanks to our local donors who helped us finance this project. To name just a few- Hope at the Lake Foundation, Cecile Ebert Foundation, Be the Miracle, Marti Estes 5K/First Presbyterian Church, Anonymous Foundations and The Light is Always On Events. There are MANY other people and churches to thank, we have not forgotten about you!
